According to scientific estimates, the Daily Fortnight began life some time around the year 2000 AD, though was originally titled 'The Toimes' and was updated about once a year using Geocities and was generally pretty crap. After the project was almost scrapped in 2003, the Toimes' co-editor Proper Gandhi had a magical idea that would transform the fortunes of the site and turn it into a world leader in satire. His idea was that he would completely alter the title. And so, in September 2004, the Daily Fortnight was revealed to the world (well, to four of the Proper Gandhi's friends, but who's counting?)
The site received little fanfare initially - scraping in just 1,000 hits in its first year (those four friends were very dedicated) and the owners soon realised that geocities.com/dailyfortnight probably just wasn't punchy enough, so the site was moved to Freewebs instead. There, however, it threatened to die a miserable death due to several issues with formatting and layout versatility, so it was decided by those concerned that maybe it would be a pretty spiffing idea to purchase www.dailyfortnight.com. And so, in September 2007, exactly 3 years to the day after the Daily Fortnight brand was formed, we launched our own domain name and, within a week, went from 15 millionth most viewed website in the world to 14 millionth! Not bad for 7 years work! And that's only the beginning.
After an admirable first year in existence, we at the Fortnight - having made an annual profit of around $10 - decided to revamp the layout of the site using a content management system powered by Joomla! That layout - with all its gadgets - is what you see today, and has certainly made life (not to mention, navigation) a darn sight easier for our long suffering fans.
But at the end of the day it's midnight it's not just about asthetics; we at the Fortnight are dedicated to producing high quality humour and news satire. To that end, we welcome submissions from you... yes, YOU! Don't be afraid now; become a member and help the 'officeless paper' in its continuing mission to deliver consistently funny news.
